Rabbi Greg Wall
Greg Wall has been the spiritual leader of Beit Chaverim Synagogue since August, 2013. Prior to coming to Westport he served as rabbi of the Sixth Street Community Synagogue, in NYC's East Village, where he started the Center for Jewish Arts and Literacy, now based in Westport. He received s'micha (rabbinic ordination) from HaRav Don Channen in 2006, as well as from HaRav Zalman Nechemya Goldberg zt"l in 2007 and HaRav Shar Yashuv Cohen zt"l in 2009. He has received Rabbinic achievement awards from Partners in Torah and the National Jewish Outreach Program, and is on the Executive Board of the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA).
Just as comfortable sharing his love for Judaism while cycling, sailing, scuba diving and quaffing craft beer, the rabbi has an infectious love for all things Jewish, and has transformed the synagogue by making Jewish literacy available to all, and fostering an inclusive, participatory experience at religious services. In addition to a regular schedule of classes in Jewish thought, classic texts, halacha (Jewish law) and the holidays, he is committed to regular one on one learning sessions as well.
Rabbi Wall (also known as "the Jazz Rabbi") is also a celebrated musician and recording artist whose innovative downtown blend of jazz, world music and Jewish sounds has filled the halls of top venues from Carnegie Hall to stages throughout North America, Europe and Israel. His love for music can be experienced at our Shabbat services, where Rabbi Wall is a frequent Ba'al Tefillah. Rabbi Wall has made our synagogue a regular stop for many of New York's top Jewish performers, writers and and visual artists. Originally from the Boston area, he is married to Rona Wall, and is the proud father of three children.
